FAQ

            General

Is vectorStar a Data Warehouse?

Yes, it provides a very powerful data warehouse component. But it is more than that. It is an entire data engine. A data warehouse represents a static approach to your data: “store it to be analyzed later”. A data engine is dynamically involved in the whole data lifecycle: collect, concentrate, replicate, extract, clean, store, aggregate, transform, query, analyse, mine, reformat, distribute and report all your data.

Does it replace my current databases?

No, unless you want it to. It feeds from existing data in your current databases by providing either native or ODBC access to: Oracle, MS SQL Server, IBM DB2 UDB, MySQL and SQLite.

The key point here is that it provides much more data consolidation speed and that gives you the capability to analyse much more data in a practical and convenient amount of time.

Does it work with SAP BW?

Yes. If you have SAP BW installed, it works as a high-speed data processor for analysing the (usually very detailed) data stored in the its Operational Data Stores (ODS).

Is it compatible with my BI Reporting Tools?

It uses industry-standard file formats (XML, CSV, XLS, etc.) and external language APIs (C, Java, etc.) Your existing reporting tools should find it easy to access it.
